Verona Pentony of Momentum Support was delighted to attend the 2019 Special Olympics World Games, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates as a Be Unified volunteer.
More than 7,000 athletes from 170 countries competed in 24 summer sports, along with 2,500 coaches and 20,000 volunteers. During the event, Momentum Support had the pleasure of introducing CSR strategy, attending the Digicel Lunch and met a wide variety of guests and personalities.
For Verona, meeting Hanna Joy Atkinson, Sargent Shriver International Global Manager, 24, was a defining moment for her. At the age of two, Hanna was diagnosed with leukemia and her first fight began. She started on the slopes with Special Olympics Colorado at the age of 13. From there, she joined unified basketball, swimming, and cycling. Hanna was selected to give her high school graduation speech and received a scholarship from the John Lynch Foundation as the “Exceptional Star of the Year.” She then served as a member of the Youth Activation Council, training athletes on the importance of healthy living – and a contributor for ABC Denver 7 News where she earned a Heartland Broadcast Emmy for her piece titled “More Alike Than Different.” She now holds a Leadership role, such as a Health Messenger and now as a Sargent Shriver International Global Messenger.
Momentum Support would like to extend their congratulations and warm wishes to all of the participants and volunteers.
